Dal Tadka recipe

This is very tasty dhaba style  Dal Tadka recipe . This Dal Tadka recipe is very tasty and very easy to cook at home.

Serve for – 4 peoples


  • Toor dal/arhar dal/ split red gram – 1 cup
  • Chana dal/  split bengal gram – 3/4 cup
  • Green chili chopped – 1
  • Onion chopped – 1
  • Tomato chopped – 1
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 2-3 tsp
  • Asafoetida(hing) – 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic chopped – 10-12
  • Dry red chili – 2
  • Cooking oil – 4 tbsp
  • Cumin seed – 1 tsp
  • Clove – 2-3
  • Cinnamon – 2 inch
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder – 1/3 tsp
  • salt to taste



First of all put both the dal in a bowl and wash it with water than add them in a pressure cooker with 2.25 cup of water ,1/3 tsp turmeric powder and salt.Now close the lid and put it on a gas stove and cook it for 4-5 whistles on medium flame. After 4-5 whistle turn off the flame and open lid carefully. If the dal cooked well than keep it aside.


Now Put a kadhai or pan on stove . Now turn on the flame and heat the pan. Once the pan heated add 4 tbsp oil and let it heat properly. Now add cloves and cinnamon and cumin seed in it and fry it it for 15 seconds.

Now add onion and fry it for 2-3 minutes on medium flame. After 3 minutes add chopped chili and ginger garlic paste in it and fry it for more 30 seconds. Now add all the spices (1/2 tsp turmeric powder,1/2 tsp red chili powder,1 tsp coriander power and 1/3 tsp garam masala powder) and fry it for 30 seconds.

After 30 seconds add chopped tomato in it and mix it well. Now cover the lid and cook it for 5-6 minutes on low medium flame until tomato turn soft.

After 5-6 minutes open the lid and stir it. Now add 1/2 cup coriander leaves and mix it well and reduce the flame to low and cook it for more 1 minute.Now add boiled dal in it and stir it properly. Increase the flame to medium and cook it for 1 minute. 

DAL FRY is ready, add remaining coriander leaves and mix it well. 


Now turn on the flame and heat a tadka pan. Now add ghee in it , Once the ghee heated add 1/4 tsp Asafoetida(hing) and than add red chili and chopped garlic and fry it till garlic turns brown. Once the garlic turns brown turn off the flame and pour the tadka over dal fry.
